Culinary Flop

In an effort to get Emery to eat more vegetables, I found a recipe (on pinterest of course) for cauliflower pizza crust.  Basically you put a head of cauliflower in the food processor, mix that up with an egg and some mozzarella cheese, form that into a pizza crust shape and then bake it in the oven.

It comes out looking like this.
Then you top it with whatever you like and put it under the broiler.
I made a BBQ chicken and pepperoni.  All in all the "pizza" was...ok.  It was edible.  The "crust" wasn't really strong enough to hold toppings so you had to eat it with a fork.  Will I make it again?  No.  Emery was not fooled.  That girl knows the best part of pizza is the bread.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Dinner Tonight

Like much of the world, I have recently become obsessed with Pinterest.  I can't tear myself away from all the crafts, home decor, cool products, ideas for kids and of course recipes!  I have learned that you have to look closely to what you repin though.  For example:  The picture below advertised Healthy Chicken Enchiladas.  But when I clicked on the pic for the recipe, the one I got contained doritos, 3 cups of cheese, and sour cream.
One-that doesn't sound very healthy but still delicious so I read on.
Two- no where in the picture do I see doritos and no where in the recipe did I see tortillas, avocado, fresh tomatoes, or green onions.
Three- the directions say to "pour meat, cheese and tortilla chip mixture into the baking dish".  Tortilla chips? I thought we were using doritos.  And this doesn't sound like a recipe for enchiladas.  It sounds like a mexican casserole.

This happened again with another recipe I repined.  I guess some people have recipes they want to share but no picture.  So they go out and find one that looks close and delicious so the recipe will spread like wildfire.  Very tricky pinterest people.

Well anyway, I found the recipe in the picture and made it for dinner tonight.  Not exactly super healthy (because of all the sour cream) but they were super delicious.

Minute To Win It

On New Years Eve our family got together for a little friendly competition.  We played our own Minute To Win It and we had so much fun.  There were many tasks in which we had a minute to complete.
Like "Toss the caramel corn into a tiny bowl on your partner's head."
And "Get a cookie from your forehead to your mouth without using your hands."  (One person out of 8 was able to do this by the way.  Try it.  It is super hard.)
But by far the best and funniest thing to play/watch was "Get the ping pong balls out of the tissue box strapped to your back."
High-larious.

Big thanks to Mom and Alex for putting together all of the games.

Oh yeah...did I mention that I won?

We took family pictures while in town over Christmas.  And I love them!

They turned out so good that I can't decide which of the 4 pics below to frame on my picture wall.
 Help me out!

Hatin' On Hockey

I went to my first professional hockey game recently.
Well, me and a group of long time friends.
I thought I would love the game since I have been playing hockey almost every winter of my life..  Turns out I didn't.  Love love love to play up at the cabin on the lake with as many people as we can muster.  But watching it is booooorrrrriiiiiinnnngggg.  Both teams scored a total of 3 goals during the three 20 minute periods, two 15 minute intermissions and stoppages of play.  That also included overtime.  People said, "oh you got to see an exciting game because there was a shoot out at the end."  Well you could have fooled me.  Makes me wonder about the people who say baseball is boring.  Next time I'll ask them if they have ever watched hockey.  The most interesting part of the whole night (besides catching up with the gang) was watching the people in the stands discover they were on the jumbo tron.  The girls and I even made a cameo.
The best part of the night was when David and Mike played a prank on Nate.  At the beginning of the night, they both walked in wearing these tshirts with an old picture of Nate blown up real big. They thought it would be a great way to introduce themselves to Nate's new lady friend and embarass him at the same time.  Bazinga. Yes, that is Nate circa 1995.  It was hilarious.

Sips N Strokes Sistas

My sister Alex and I went to a painting class while we were in town for Christmas.  Alex is a regular and I have always enjoyed being artistic.  But this class is extra special because you can bring your own wine.  Woot!

 The before pic...
 Some base layer blending:..
 No Alex! Don't drink that!
(this is a reenactment of when Al almost mistook her paint brush water cup for her wine glass)
Concentration.  Shading this starfish to look 3D was the hardest part.

Then we added the ocean water.  This technique was my favorite.  We put lots of paint on a knife, globbed it on the top half of the canvas, and voila!  Ocean water.
All that was left was some shadowing and we were done!
Here's Alex's finished product...
 And mine...
A group shot of the class...
We aren't quite sure what happened to the girl in the bottom of the pic.
David said it was because she drank beer instead of wine. haha.
